The Contrary Investing Report > NYSE:DRE

Is last week’s rate-cut temper tantrum the start of a bigger meltdown?

That’s the big question—and today we’re going to do what we have to do to protect our nest egg—and set ourselves up for big gains (and dividends) in the long run.

That means we may only have days to prepare—maybe even hours.

The one thing we’re not going to do? Sell and go to cash.

Because I know I don’t have to tell you that “money under the mattress” pays no dividend—and isn’t even safe, for that matter: you’re guaranteed to bleed money after inflation!

No way.

Instead, we’re going to play it smart—deftly pruning our portfolio of laggards and shifting into a set of low-key dividends that will balloon our income (and nest egg) for decades to come.… Read more

Will interest rates really get the chop everyone thinks they will as 2019 rolls into the home stretch?

The smart money certainly thinks it knows. Beyond tomorrow’s rate cut (which the pros see as all but in the can), futures traders predict two more chops—in September and December:

But here’s something no one will tell you: not a single person outside of Jerome Powell has any clue what the Fed will do next.

Not futures traders. Not your adviser. Certainly not the talking heads on CNBC.

That’s why we’re going to dive into three “forever” stocks that beat the market no matter what rates do.Read more

Money-losing firm India Globalization Capital (IGC) found the magic formula last October. They put two investing buzzwords side-by-side:

  1. Cannabis, and
  2. Blockchain.

The savvy marketers at IGC then introduced an energy drink infused with hemp, and wow, what a rush!

IGC Jumped 10-Fold on Buzzwords

We rational income investors fortunately avoided this circus. I wrote to you as the blockchain-weed craze was peaking:

We level-headed contrarians should stay away from this circus. In fact, you need to be honest with yourself about the latest weed craze. If you’re tempted at all to buy this junk, it’s better if you change the channel.Read more

If rising rates and this whipsawing market have you wondering where to put your cash now, don’t worry: you’re not the only one.

The good news? I’ve got 5 perfect contrarian buys for you to snap up now.

Each of these 5 stocks is set to pull off something that’s proven to line shareholders’ pockets when rates spike: all 5 “outrun” rates by giving us a high dividend yield now or fast payout growth—and sometimes both in one buy!

More on these 5 smart rising-rate plays in a moment.

First, we need to talk about another group of stocks that might look like a great contrarian opportunity now, but is anything but.… Read more

If you want to double—or even triple—your dividend income overnight, there’s an easy way to do it: buy stocks that pay special dividends.

And today I’ve got 3 totally ignored special-dividend payers for you. Each of these top-notch income plays throws off “hidden” payouts yielding up to 9.7%!

We’ll unmask all 3 as we roll through this article. We’ll also look at the almost comical reason why stocks like these get completely overlooked, and I’ll give you everything you need to get in on the next big special payout before it drops.

A $2-Trillion Cash Stash Looking for a Home

It happens like clockwork: a company announces a blowout quarter or a hike in its regular payout … and rolls out a big special dividend either days before or just after.… Read more

Amazon.com (AMZN) blatantly defies all of my investing rules, and gets away with it every time.

It drives me crazy! But instead of staying mad, we’re going to “get even” by banking some backdoor payouts the firm’s landlords dish out.

Of course Jeff Bezos’ company pays no dividend, nor does it buy back shares (and as I’ve written before, growing dividends and well-timed buybacks are sacred cows to me—and 2 keys to a rising share price).

In fact, the e-commerce giant has done the opposite, thumbing its nose at repurchases—busily adding to its share count since the late ’90s!

Amazon Waters Down Its Shares …

But just to show you what an incredible business this is, you can see that even though Amazon has diluted investors’ holdings with these share issues, that’s done zilch to crimp its massive per-share earnings and cash-flow growth:

… and Banks Huge Profits Anyway

To top it off, this stock is the definition of pricey: it’s never traded below 25 times earnings in its history—and today it trades at an absurd 158 times!Read more

You’ve no doubt seen tons of articles splashed across the Web (over)hyping the hottest investing trends to jump on now. But which promising technologies can we actually tap for payouts and dividends (preferably today)?

The “mainstream” list is endless: cryptocurrencies, marijuana stocks—even gene editing (where the white coats actually alter DNA to wipe out diseases like cystic fibrosis).

I hope you’re not taking the bait, because gambling on shaky themes like these can put a huge dent in your nest egg. Check out the stomach-churning ride pot stock Aurora Cannabis (ACBFF) has been on this year:

Aurora’s Bad Trip

That nasty fall even includes a 19% gain last week after Constellation Brands (STZ) invested $5 billion in Canopy Growth (CGC), the biggest marijuana stock by market cap.… Read more

If you’re like most dividend investors, you’re probably keeping one eye on bond yields right now.

And, well, you should be … but only if you own low-yielding (or slow-growing) “bond proxies” like, say, PepsiCo (PEP).

But if you buy (or already own) the 5 “undercover” high yielders I’ll show you at the end of this article, I have great news for you: you can ignore inflation, bond yields and the Fed and simply keep on collecting your fat dividend checks.

Bond Yields: 1, PepsiCo: 0

Before we get to that, back to PepsiCo.

As you probably know, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note has risen from 2.3% in early December to more than 2.9% today.…

I had to laugh when I saw this Barron’s headline last week:

“REITs Are Sending a Powerful Buy Signal”

My response? Of course they are! They have been for a while now!

If you’ve been following my articles on Contrarian Outlook, you know I’m a big fan of real estate investment trusts, with their outsized dividends (and dividend growth) and upside potential.

And now the press is finally paying attention.

It is satisfying when the pundits finally catch up to us. But the bad news is that it also means our shot at the biggest gains (and dividends) is likely on borrowed time as the headline-driven herd piles in.…
