What could be better than a booming business that feeds an ever-growing dividend?

How about a “wide moat” to protect the payout’s upward trajectory? We’ll rank five dividend growers and their competitive advantages in a minute. First, let’s talk about disruption.

Tesla (TSLA) CEO and “Chief Disrupter” Elon Musk recently stormed the castle of investing theory when he challenged the importance of moats – the idea of corporate competitive advantages that make it difficult for other companies to whittle away market share.

It’s a skirmish that brought longtime “wide moats” pitchman Warren Buffett into the fray, as the Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) CEO and Musk had sparring words for one another.…

The 10-Year Treasury yield is holding at 2.85%, but another run to 3% is coming soon. Let’s use this breather to sell our weakest dividends and replace them with stocks that should actually head higher as rates rise.

You know the playbook by now. When the 10-Year yield rallies, it crushes stocks with pathetic yields or meager dividend growth. These “bond proxies” get dumped for the real thing as first-level investors scamper to the 3% yields on “safe” US government debt.

If your portfolio relies on laggards like these—I’m talking about penny-a-year hikers like AT&T (T) and Walmart (WMT), or stocks that haven’t hiked their payouts in years, like Wynn Resorts (WYNN)—I have two words for you:

Sell now!

If the virtues and importance of dividend growth weren’t etched into your brain already, let’s consider February’s example. (Then we’ll outline ten imminent hikes coming in April.)

About a month ago, shortly before the market reached full correction mode, I outlined the problem low-growth dividend stocks would have against rapidly rising Treasury rates – and why it’s vital that we monitor the dividend growth of current and prospective holdings.

Within a week, yields quickly leapt to nearly 3%, and currently sit close by at about 2.9%. On cue stocks crashed:

The lesson here is twofold.

For one, if interest rates continue to climb, life becomes more difficult for corporations across the board.…

In my years in the markets, I’ve seen some dangerous financial products come on the scene, but the two I’m going to show you in a moment might be the most dangerous.

No, I’m not talking about Bitcoin—although cryptocurrencies are pretty risky, since, as I wrote on January 1, most people don’t understand just how big a failure Bitcoin really is.

I’m talking about two new funds that have recently been released by BMO Capital Markets in conjunction with REX Exchange-Traded Funds.

Before I go into just how terrible these two funds are, let’s do a bit of digging into who BMO and REX are.…

I’m about to show you 3 funds to buy for the raging bull market we’ll see in 2018.

You read that right. After a massive 22% gain in 2017, stocks still have room to run, no matter what the naysayers tell you.

Before we get to these 3 funds—with dividend yields up to 8%—I want to tell you why the negative Nellies are all washed up when it comes to the outlook for stocks this year.

Then we’re going to “pick our spots,” highlighting the 2 fastest-growing sectors of this surging market (both of which our 3 fund picks are dialed into) to grab the highest dividends and upside!…

Worried that a bursting bitcoin bubble will sideswipe stocks in 2018?

Don’t be. Because as I’ll explain in a moment, the hysteria over the so-called “cryptocurrency” is actually good for stocks this year, no matter if bitcoin explodes for a 10,000% gain … or flames out and crashes back to earth.

I’ll also show you the one surprising group of stocks poised to benefit from bitcoin in 2018, no matter what happens.

First, if you’re like most people and find bitcoin a complete mystery, stick with me for a minute and I’ll show you how it works—and what’s pumping up the bulging bitcoin bubble.…

Congressional Republicans are closer than ever to passing wide changes to America’s tax code. From 10,000 feet, they largely feature:

  • Varying levels of tax cuts for individuals,
  • A massive tax cut for businesses, and they
  • Weaken (or negate) the estate tax.

There’s debate regarding how much individuals will actually benefit, but there’s little debate that certain public companies will gain. Both the Senate and the House are looking to cut the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%. Plus, companies will be allowed to pay a low, one-time repatriation tax on profits already sheltered overseas.

The idea is that U.S. corporations will use this windfall to hire more people, and many likely will … but that’s not the only place that money is going.…

If you’re a contrarian investor, you know that the market loves to overreact—and that mass hysteria can hand you some nice profits.

That’s because panicked first-level investors toss great investments over the side along with the bad. We’re happy to step in when they do, buy at a discount, then sit back and watch the price snap back.

This is exactly what Warren Buffett refers to when he says to “buy when there’s blood in the streets.”

And it’s even better if there are high dividend payouts on offer.

Funny thing is, these deals are often hiding in plain sight. In fact, one of the most popular stocks in the world was ridiculously underpriced just under two years ago: Apple (AAPL).…

Remember when I said there were more than 2,400 closed-end funds, mutual funds and ETFs beating the S&P 500?

Well, today we’re going to dive into three of those funds. Unlike many of their cousins, these aren’t one-hit wonders.

All three boast outsized dividend payouts far larger than those of any S&P 500 stock: all the way up to 8.3%!

They also give you instant diversification and world-class management. You can see that in each fund’s stock-picking prowess, which is translating into gains that crush the S&P 500 SPDR ETF (SPY):

Leading the Index by a Mile

So let’s dig deeper to see how these funds tick and what place they might have in your portfolio.…

Back in February 2016, I wrote an article titled “4 Reasons to Buy This 9.2% Yielding Equity Fund”. That fund was the AGIC Equity and Convertible Income Fund (NIE).

Since then, NIE has done this:

Almost 50% Gains in a Year and a Half

Oh, and did I mention that NIE pays a 7.4% dividend? That’s right: $100,000 in this fund gives you $616 per month in cash.

Despite the conventional wisdom about dividend yields, that high yield doesn’t come with high risks. Not only has NIE been growing its dividend since 2009, but that income stream is well covered by the fund’s investments—again, thanks to its big returns, as we see in the chart above.…
