Bull Market in Government Benefit Recipients Rolls On

Q: What bull market, other than US Treasuries, has been roaring nearly uninterrupted since 1983?

A: The percentage of US households receiving some government benefit!

This number has steadily risen from a “mere” 30% in 1983 to a current, hearty 49.1%.  I was actually surprised to see the number that much lower as recently as 30 years ago.  It’d be interesting to see this number plotted from the start of the 20th century, as I’d guess (purely off the cuff) it was in single digits until the New Deal.
